SAVAGE, MD- The Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland serving Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Prince George’s County and the City of Laurel announces the selection of Cristin Tolen as its new General Manager. The selection was made after former General Manager, Mark Pritchard under the Transportation Management Services contract with First Transit retired. “On behalf of the RTA’s partner jurisdictions, I’d like to welcome Cristin,” said Clive Graham, Administrator of the Howard County Office of Transportation. “Cristin brings to the RTA diverse state and local agency background, managerial expertise, an eye for detail, and energy. Transit agencies everywhere are being challenged by increasingly high performance expectations as well as competition from other transportation modes. We look forward to Cristin’s leadership as we address these challenges, and implement our new Transit Development Plan.”
Cristin comes to the RTA with extensive experience in transportation and was currently serving in Arlington County, VA as a First Transit General Manager. She represented Arlington as the primary representative with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Northern Virginia Area Transit Commission and other agencies on a number of transit capital, policy, and operational initiatives key to the citizens and economic vitality of Arlington. Prior to Arlington, Cristin was Chief of the Transit System Development with Prince George’s county overseeing the department’s $32 million operating and capital budgets, and working closely with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) to ensure the county’s compliance with all federal and state grant funding requirements. Early on in her career she was with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) serving as Manager of the Washington Area Transit Programs based in Hyattsville. In her prior roles at MDOT and Prince George’s County, she saw the development of RTA in the planning stages back in 2012-14 and then in early operations after the July 1, 2014 start up.
“I’m thrilled and honored to have an opportunity to work with the wonderful staff here at the RTA as well as our partners in the region.” states Tolen. “Quality transportation alternatives are imperative to the citizens of Central Maryland, and I look forward to working hard every day to deliver them.”
Cristin has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Towson University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. She lives in Annapolis with her husband and two sons.
