History
Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Northern Prince George’s County and the City of Laurel came together as parties in 2014 to create the Central Maryland Transportation & Mobility Consortium to advance their cooperative efforts to maintain an efficient and effective coordinated regional bus system in Maryland. The bus system is the Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland, (RTA).
Structure of the Organization
The Central Maryland Transportation and Mobility Commission (CMTMC) represents Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Northern Prince George’s County and the City of Laurel. From each of these jurisdictions, two representatives sit on the CMTMC. The group is responsible for promoting the interests of the parties and providing guidance for the transit services operated by RTA.

Transit Management of Central Maryland, Inc. (TMCM) is the legal name of the entity that provides transit services for the parties’. TMCM does business as the RTA. First Transit is a company that provides management services for RTA.
The Central Maryland Transportation & Mobility Commission meets quarterly. Meetings are held from 1:00 PM- 3:00 PM on the 4th Tuesday of March, June and September. The December meeting is held on the 2nd Tuesday due to the holiday. All meetings are located at the RTA Administration Building, 8510 Corridor Road, Suite 110, Savage, Maryland. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, MEETINGS ARE HELD VIRTUALLY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
