The Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland (RTA) is excited to announce two bus route enhancements that will take effect on July 9, 2023.

A new bus route, Route 505, will directly connect to Catonsville from Columbia and Ellicott City. The route will allow riders to connect with MTA Routes 77, 150, and CityLink Purple.  This new route will provide greater access to the region’s employment, medical, and shopping opportunities.

Route 405 will be restructured to provide more local service throughout Ellicott City, including Old Ellicott City, Pine Orchard Lane, and Normandy Woods Drive. While Route 405 will no longer provide a direct connection to Columbia and Long Gate Shopping Center, many of the same stops will continue to be served.  For Ellicott City residents needing to go to Columbia or Long Gate, a transfer to new Route 505 at Walmart will be necessary.

The route changes result from the 2018 Transit Development Plan (TDP)—the 2018 TDP surveyed over 1,500 riders, residents, and stakeholders on service improvements.

For more information about the service change to Route 405 and the new Route 505, please call RTA’s customer service line at 800-270-9553.
